Description

Speed, Control, and Power For All Seasons

The Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR is the strongest GP5K yet, creating trust in all weather conditions and boosting your protection.

Like all Grand Prix tires, it starts with Conti's unique tread compound, produced only in Germany. The legendary Black Chili compound answers the eternal question of the best balance of grip and rolling resistance. The latest polymers, as well as specially developed carbon black particles and filler materials guarantee unique performance.

A Vectran breaker is lighter, more flexible and effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker without effecting rolling resistance. Vectran is spun from liquid crystal-polymer, creating a thermoplastic, multiple-thread, partially-crystalline yarn that is more cut-resistant than aramide and with tensile strength five times higher than that of steel.

The GP More-Thousand

Fusing GP5K speed and tubeless compatibility with a GP4S strength, the AS TR is designed to give you more: more wet grip, more sidewall protection, more mileage, and more visibility.

The micro profile structure of Conti Lazer Grip expands over the tire's shoulder and provides outstanding cornering in dry or wet conditions.

Embedded in the tire construction is new Active Comfort Technology that absorbs vibrations and smooths your ride.

And like Conti's famed commuter tires, the AS TR comes with a Black Reflex sidewall to make sure you can be seen in low light conditions.

Grand Prix Family

The AS TR proves that a tender Grand Prix ride quality can still be tough. But its speedier siblings are still standing by as well. For the same famous quality with extra zip, check out the S TR or the TT TR for even more ludicrous speed. And if you don't need tubeless/hookless compatibility, turn to the original gold standard GP5K.

Smooth ride and fairly easy to install
by Anonymous

I installed these tires on the road wheel set I use on my Trek Checkpoint gravel bike. My previous set of tires were Conti GP 5000 with tubes in size 28. Those were great with 0 flats over quite a few miles. When they finally wore out, I wanted to switch over to tubeless and decided to try the wider 32mm width. I only have a couple of rides on these so far, so can't speak to durability, but the ride is extremely smooth without feeling sluggish. I'm typically riding solo, and not racing so I'm not seeking the fastest tire possible - durability is more important to me. That said, these don't feel slow at all, and the ride comfort is superior. I've been running at about 55psi up front and 56 in the rear.

I needed levers for install, and it definitely took a little elbow grease, but nothing terribly difficult. Tires sealed with Orange Seal and only a floor pump. So far, I would definitely recommend.

Excellent winter tire

These replaced a well-worn set of Gator Hardshells on my winter setup and they are a noticeable upgrade in ride quality. Much faster, better wet grip, and far more supple over rough road. No flats yet with about 250 miles running butyl tubes.

Comfortable ride, hard to install
by Fetengii

The 32mm wide tires allow me to ride with TPU tubes at 51 psi front & 54 psi rear, due to firm sidewalls, and provides a soft ride with great traction. I dont yet know the longevity of these tires, but others have commented positively. Although theyre more costly, all the benefits seem worthwhile and the reviews are very positive (https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com). My only negative is that theyre really hard to install (probably because theyre intended to be used as tubeless).

First impression - amazing
by Steve F.

You can't help but notice the quality of these tires when you first unbox them, very tight production tolerances with no discernable irregularities - even the excess rubber in the center of the tread is very

consistent. They do feel, stiff but it doesn't translate to a harsh ride. I think it is just a very dense compound. I just gave them a 40 mile maiden voyage on a typical late-Fall New England day with a mix of good, bad and truly horrendous wet roads and came away extremely impressed, such a great ride quality with loads of grip. The active comfort technology must be legit, these might be the best tubeless tires I've ridden to date as far as road feel goes - it's really like riding on clouds compared to many other race tires I've tried. They also feel very fast, honestly I could not detect the rolling resistance from these tires even on inclines and even though they are heavy-ish I didn't notice the weight. I didn't do any categorized climbs of course but a few steep ones anyway. Hopefully they will last me at least a few thousand miles, judging by all the 5 star reviews here and on other websites there appears to be a good chance they will.

Perfect balance of speed, comfort, durability for daily riding

I've been riding Conti GP tires for decades with GP4000 and GP5000 clinchers that typically lasted about a year before getting a sidewall or tread cut that warranted replacement. Switched to GP5000 TR when I went tubeless and while they were great, durability was an issue and had 2 flats within two months vs having zero punctures in years. Read the new GP5000 TR was made a bit thinner for greater speed. So switched to these GP5000 AS TR and so far no flats and hope to get at least a season out of them. Feel just as grippy and fast as the GP5000 TR but maybe slightly less supple. I have them in 32mm and are perfect for the imperfect SF Bay Area roads.

THE BEST !

Continental has been my choice of tires for over 20 yrs. Started with the 4000 series 2003/2005 .They are still the best road tires for the type of long distance rides that i enjoy, 60+ mile days on paved roadways. I get between 5000/6000 miles on a set. I rotate them every 1500/2000 miles, depending on how well they are wearing which for me is about every 3 months. Not too much trouble as I have 2 sets of wheels mounted with these tires to swap out between. Running both sets tubeless.Wish the price were not so high, but I will still keep using them as I think they are the best tires for how I use them.

Plush as tubeless -- Grippy!

This GP 5000 As-TR with the latest version of Black Chili compound gives a glued-down amount of confidence-inspiring grip. I paired this in 25c as a rear tire with an Aero 111 in 26c on the front on 19mm internal width TL wheels (I weigh 180lbs). With 65psi r and 60psi f on far-less than perfect worn city streets with lost of cracks, debris and old road construction scars. I felt total confidence on this tire on my hilly up and downhill training rides. In terms of road feel/comfort, the change is dramatic. Owed to the 12-15 less psi as well as the lack of inner-tube. The tire construction itself is said to incorporate "Active-Comfort" elastomer which "absorbs road vibrations and smooths the ride"...

It apparently DOES work! I finished my rides feeling less fatigued and less of the usual effects from road buzz and vibrations. Bravo, Continental !!

I use this tire for foul weather and training...it is a little heavier than my GP S TR that I use for summertime and fast peloton, but feels quite similar.

Great grip on corners

Bought these to replace some gravel tires because i really did not ride that much gravel. They track and grip perfectly on the corners.

Gravel tires tend to squeegee/squish when you go through turn which can be a bit tricky.

Great tire - grippy and fast

Have had these on the road bike for a few weeks. Replaced Conti GP4000 4 Seasons. The GP5000 seems quite a bit faster, and grippier. Been riding in the rain with a lot of confidence. Can't comment yet on puncture resistance or longevity. Mounted on Enve M50s - tight to get on, seated with floor pump + storage / release chamber.

Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR Road Tire are the best tires out there right now.

I ordered these tires a few times. All around the best tires I have ever owned. They last a long time, and I have not had a flat with them yet. They grip well throughout their life span. They can be hard to put on my rims, but it's the nature of the beast for me.

Major improvement going tubeless

Been a frequent flyer on Conti 4 seasons on my tube tire bikes. The 5K ASTR appears to be the tubeless predecessor to that model (got a squishy confirmation of that from the Continental tent at the Sea Otter in April). Without getting all tangled up in the benefits of tubeless I must say that the ASTR performs perfectly to my expectations, have run my first set 2,500 miles now without one incident. The rear is getting to the bottom of the indicators but the performance and reliability are still 100%. Awesome tires.

Simply awesome
by Kevin

Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR 35mm is simply the best road tires I've ever owned. It is supple, has relatively low rolling resistance that is measurable, hugs the roads like a baby hugging his mother on corners, and so far no puncture. My bike immediately became more agile after tire change. I set it up tubeless with Stan's Original. Tires pumped to 52/55 psi front/rear respectively, and hold pressure no worse than other tires I'd used. Road surface ridden is all dry, and varies from very smooth to very rough, mostly average condition. Terrain is primarily hilly to very hilly.

I've ridden ~300 miles on these tires so far, so this is an early-use review. Durability and long term puncture resistance are still unknown. Drawback? Price, even when bought discounted.

Not sure why it is not true
by shiltian

I have installed many TLR tires before, but this was my first time trying GP5000. It was indeed nicely built. The only problem I have is, it is slightly not true. Not sure whats going on. My wheels are true. I tried to remove it and then re-install it, but it didnt solve the issue. It feels bumpy at the same location. I dont think it is my skill. Might be a QC issue.

Durable and kush
by GEF

I have put about 1000 mi on these on mostly tarmac, with fair amount of rough roads and some splintery wood plank bridges. Running tubeless and can compare to tubeless Conti GP5000 S (32) and Conti GP5000 (28), on which I put 1000s of mi in similar conditions. These are all fabulous smooth running tires on which I had only 1 flat sidewall cut on the 5000 S. One major difference between the AS and those other 5000s: They would all get minor cuts that would seep sealant at very low rates not a problem at all, but occurred consistently. This has not happened at all on the ASs, apparently due to the greater reinforcement (plys). Because of that reinforcement, the ASs are not as kush as the Ss, until you run them at 2-3 psi less pressure, which works for me. So these are great tires: smooth, durable, and noticeably a bit more sticky than the other 5000s.
