If you want a tire that will last this is the one. I've used these tires on our Tandem that requires a tough tire but smooth ride for centuries and they deliver.
Good quality materials and Continental rep. Not too bad going on, noticed improved speed and cornering. See how they survive the summer.
Riding on our levee system daily with plenty of small rocks.. It seemed hopeless not to have a flat once a week. Im in love with these gator skins and two of my friends have already purchased these tires after my success. Fantastic product.
Great tire for training. I use this set of tires in Laredo, Texas where you find a lot of caliche on the road. Works exceptionally well, good puncture resistance!
I don't mind the extra weight for training as it makes it easier when I put on lighter tire for racing. I also have not had to change tubes so I can spend more time on the road.
On second set have not had a single flat!!
We run 28 x 700c on our tandem and we got 3000 flat-free miles on these. We've tried both cheaper & more expensive rubber, but Gators are by far the best tire we've run.
I read all the reviews and bought with confidence, but very skeptic. Not anymore, BEST TIRES EVER, 5000 miles 0 flats, unbelievable. Already bought my second set, I'll post next year how it went, hopefully I get to rave again.
I have this tire on all the bikes that I ride. I ride in an area where the roads get salted in the wintertime and the salt contains small pieces of flint. Flint can cause a flat or cut the tire carcase. My tires have held up well to the punishment they receive. I usually ride between 4 and 5 thousand miles a year and have had some tires on my bike for more than two years. I ride 33 miles a day, usually late at night when I can't afford to have tire problems, these are the tires to use when its almost 4AM NS You want to make it home.
Put these tires on to ride around on the winter time roads here in the lovely pacific nw. Even with all of the gravel on the roads I have not not had a flat or ever lost traction. I love these tires.
Got these at a super sale price. Only have about 200 miles on and they show virtually no signs of wear. I have them on my commuter/errand bike and they seem to ride and handle well on it. Not light... but on this bike it doesn't matter and I don't feel it.
These tires are impressive. I commute and train year round in New York City, which is not known for it's clean, glass free streets. In the three years I've been riding these tires I've gotten exactly one flat and it was from a wicked looking tack. As long as you inspect these tires after each ride, they will last a long time. It's not uncommon for me to finish a ride, get home and inspect the tires and have to pull out all kinds of glass that did not get through them.
Hard to put on when new, but perfect otherwise.
Nothing not to like light weight good grip on the road
I run the 700x25s all winter on my single speed. I get 2000 miles on the rear without a flat. They are durable without feeling like you've got concrete wrapped around your rims
I have mixed feelings on this tire. I love the wear, toughness, and non-nonsense look. I'm not so fond of the ride - it's a bit draggy and insulates the road too much. The best use of this tire is for a rain bike (mine is a 1992 Pinarello Stelivio with '98-era Campy Record), as the wet tends to suspend nasty puncture debris.
This tire is perfect for commuters and those of us who ride nasty roads. It's not a race tire.
I recently removed a Gatorskin tire from my front wheel that had over 5000 miles on it. It had tread wear and some cosmetic sidewall damage. I swapped it out because I was doing a long ride 250 miles. Otherwise, I would have left it on my bike. I have used these tires for the last 6 years and will continue to buy them.
I have tried lots of tires, but gatorskins consistently offer the best blend of durability and ride control. I use them on all of my bikes (road and commute).
One of those products that once you use it you're skeptical to switch to another. Proven durability and ride comfort.
I have used these tires on three different bikes on my 22 mile commute into Boston. I've used in 10 degree temps and 95 degrees. They are not the lightest, which is the downside. If that is important, spend your money on a racing tire. I can honestly say in almost 3 years of running these, I have not had a flat. I've pulled shards of glass or metal out of the tread, I had a big cut on the sidewall, but never had to stop and fix a flat on the roadside. Prior to using these, I'd probably average a flat a month on my routes.
I totally disagree with the other comment on this site. In my experience, these are really tough tires and reasonably fast.
I've got thousands of miles on these tires. Absolutely zero flats or issues with them. I ride all winter long, all summer long on them.
They aren't the most supple feeling of tire, but given the protection they provide, they are excellent handling and feeling tires. I heartily recommend them to anyone that doesn't want to hassle with frequent flats.
A lot of people seem to look down on the Gatorskins - they're common, but that's for a reason. Great tires, great durability. Well worth the investment.
