I've used glue and tape. The tape is quick and easy...way less messy. I take the turns fast and am not one bit worried about rolling a tire.
Tufo Tape is great. Easy to use and works great and a lot easier to use when putting tubular on.
Incredible invention that revolutionized how I use tires and wheelsets.
Will never go back to clinchers and their countless pinch flats. I have been using exclusively tubular tires in the last two years and the tape is the only way to do it. Will never use the messy glue or the annoying clinchers, plus tubulars just ride so much better.
Glue tape done right is easy, faster and safer. I wouldn't be using tubulars if I had to glue the old way. I can change a tubular in under an hour. Where the old way would take a day or two.
five star overall bc it took very little effort to mount tires, then no problems for 11 muddy races last season, 5 star value because when you compare to gluing, less than ten bucks is a good deal.
Being using exclusively tubulars with tape for the past two years and I love it. No problems so far. Tires last longer than the clincher counterparts and they are easy to change with the Tufo tape. The main advantage in my opinion is that there is no messy residue to clean before you install the new tire.
Ive used this tape for 2years with Zipp 404 and ENVE SES 6.7 It always works well.
And it saves some money and time to set your new tire.
This tape makes installing tubular tires insanely easy. Peel, stick, mount. That's all there is.
I've heard from friends that this tape works best with Tufo tires, however. Some tubulars are too pointy on the bottom and don't have enough surface area to make a good seal.
I have two set of tubular wheels and I use the the tufo tape on both, at first I thought it would not hold on corners but was proven wrong..fyi..when installing...be patient and glue it per instructions go slow and straight..once you have the tire on only inflate to 20 psi...roll it around using your weight...spin it and check to make sure is straight.....inflate to normal psi...that easy...no more glue...
I like the fact you can take the old tape off with care and have very little residual adhesive left on the carbon tubular wheel then retape with the new strip and place the prior stretched tubular on the rim. There is no mess and I start riding after I pull the reddish-clear tape off a semi inflated properly centered tire and take the air pressure up to tire specs. Been using this tape for years on all my carbon tubular Zipp wheels without any incidents.
You'll never have to worry about rolling a tire in a Crit again, ain't gonna' happen. 1000% improvement over the 'Old Days when yothe only option was messy glue.
Works well, especially for road tires. No glue required and easy to get your tire on straight. Seems a bit expensive, but when you see what the LBS charges, do it yourself is the way to go. I've been using it for years. Never had a rolled tire. Clean your rims with alchohol or something - just to be safe.
Used these to redo Tufo Primus for CX, and working great after a couple of races and training. Depending on how they hold up, may not go back to gluing except for mud tires
No reason to use messy, sticky tubular glue ever again - the Tufo tape goes on easily (follow clear instructions), the tire can be positioned perfectly, and once the protective film has been removed (and the bike has been ridden for just a few yards) the tape bonds instantly. All without glue all over the rim and your hands. And removing the tape when putting on a new tire is just as easy and clean - no more scraping off dried glue, possibly damaging the rim.
I've never glued any of my tubulars, used this tape for tubulars wheelstires for 7 years and I like it. It's very strong, easy to apply, and never had any trouble with tires rolling off the rim. My only complaint is when it's time to change tires and apply new tape, the old adhesive is VERY difficult to remove. Acetone doesn't work.
Much easier then glue and not as messy. Unfortunately I had to remove a tire to true the wheel. Anybody worried tape is not as strong as glue, I can tell you don't worry. It was a job to get that tire off.
.
Easy to use and able to change or make adjustments to tire or wheels relatively eay.
I use this tape to glue my tubular tire on my road bike wheels. It was very easy to apply. I've had no issue using this product. I don't think the tire will come off easier, unless the wheels get a very strong impact. I'm not a pro and don't ride that aggressively. I think this type of tape should work for most cycling enthusiast. Will but this product again if I need to in the future.
As a first time user of gluing tape, I was very impressed with how quick and easy it was to use. I watched one or two online videos which provided some additional small details that made getting it right the first time less stressful. So far I have no complaints.
Never changed a tubular tire before. The whole idea of glue, tire positioning and final appearance terrified me. Read some articles and decided to try tape. Wow, hit the easy button! Tires are on, aligned great, and no mess from my sloppy gluing. I haven't raced on them yet but it all felt secure on my first ride.
