I am a wheel builder and I could not build them this affordably.
Out of the box, they are incredibly true, the spoke tension is very uniform and the dish is perfect.
The rims are 21.5 mm wide and I am impressed with the build quality.
The spokes are double butted and bladed.
The front wheel uses smaller spokes than the rear.
The engineers have carefully designed these wheels to be light and relatively strong.
These are for my girl friend ... she is 63 inches tall and weighs 112 lbs.
For a small rider, I think these wheels will be very durable.
I am 72 inches tall and weigh 192 lbs. ... I doubt that they would be strong enough for me.
I live in WV, where the terrain is very hilly and the roads tend to be rough in places.
The wheels are attractive and I like the cup and cone bearings.
Shimano's new system uses an Allen wrench and has made the maintenance much easier.
I highly recommend this wheel-set for a small rider.
Great value. Well constructed rims. The bearings and spin is buttery smooth. I mounted a set of Schwable Pro One tubeless tires with surprisingly little effort. Smooth ride, the wheels are not too stiff (like my cracked Giant PSL-0's that they replaced) but still have that firm feeling when accelerating and climbing.
Two improvements I'd like to see. They do scratch easily and extra care must be used if you use tire levers. The included tubeless valve stems are appreciated, but the valve itself is not removable like other tubeless valves. This makes for an easier install of sealant.
The first 20 mile ride with the combination of wheel and tire and I had no numb hands, which has been a constant problem for me. (I ride 100 miles a week). Best bang for the buck!!
These wheels are great for long distances. I've put about 300-400 mi on them so far, and no issues.
Bought these as an upgrade to the Shimano R500 wheels on my Specialized Allez Sport Ultegra. Wheels look great and roll beautifully. I can really tell the difference. Quality is excellent. I now have an all Ultegra bike.
The only hit on these, and it's minor, is the tight fit for tubes and tires. With patience one can mount tubetires without resorting to tide levers. I put on some Conti 4000S tires and couldn't be happier with the setup. Ride is stable and wheels take the bumps and divots of the local roads with ease.
I would recommend this wheelset as an excellent value and a beneficial upgrade
I have two sets of these wheels, one on my cxgravel bike and another on my steel road bike. For my road bike, I have them set up tubeless with tubeless ready 28mm Hutchinson Sectors which is a great combination in terms of comfortride quality. However, the setup for the rear tire was really hard and required experimenting with different sealants and I and the shop tried many times (12) before it finally held. For gravel, I have a set of clement 32 xplor's which I really like. I haven't tried tubeless because my tires aren't tubeless ready, but I intend to buy the tubeless ready kind next and try them out. The combination is great-good balance of comfort, durability and weight. For what I use these wheels for, I can't recommend them enough, as long as you're willing to put the time in to get the tubeless to work. They get 4 and not 5 stars because of the difficulty with tubeless setup.
This wheelset has a couple hundred miles in been a great addition to the daily commute. Using it with a 9-speed SRAM cassette and Gatorskin tires and have had no issues whatsoever. The design is significantly more aerodynamic than other comparable wheels and they are holding up nicely in the grimy winter conditions. For every day usage this is a very solid choice and if you can grab them with any discount are well worth the price.
I wanted a spare wheelset for training in the winter and I saw these. Took them to my team shop and they were perfectly trued out of the box. I run them with tubeless tires and I have not had an issue. They are very light, look great and the price was right. The Hutchinson tires were very tight to put on but it sealed well.
Set up on an older 9sp Ultegra drive train - just use the provided spacer. Mounted (and unmounted) 25c Continental Grand Prix clinchers easily by hand. You just need to make sure the bead is all the way down in the center channel opposite of where you are mounting.
Purchased these about a month ago and have put approximately 200 miles on them at this point. Wheels are much lighter than my previous set that came with my road bike. I can tell a difference during both shortlong climbs. Wheels have remained true up to this point. I will say the tires were difficult to install on the rims. However, I highly recommend these as a very solid upgrade.
I have a Trek Domanie 4.7 with the Ultegra package and was looking to replace the Original Bontrage wheels. i had my eyes on the Dura Ace 24 for quite a while but also had looked into the ultegra wheels that was about 2.5 times cheaper and excellent reviews. When bikes direct put these wheels on sale plus 30% discount it was too hard to say no and what a great deal!! I paid about $XXX with free shipping!!!
The ride on these wheels is awesome and cut about 1 lbs of weight. Bike Direct is an awesome store!!!
I bought the wheelset for a backup and mounted 25mm continental tires. Wheels accelerate quickly and feel stiff.
My hand-built wheels have now become my backup. Only complaint was mounting the rear tire. After researching online I
Found this to be a common issue with this wheelset, but also found the solution.
On paper, these wheels are great. Great hubs, good rims, tubeless-ready, and light. However, they have poor build quality. Out of the box, they looked fine upon visual inspection. However, being an experience wheel builder, I put these on the truing stand to discover that both wheels were out of true and out of round. Maybe some riders would consider them acceptable, but when a wheel is more than 18 out of true peak-to-peak, that is disappointing. The wheels ship with a pair of spoke wrenches for the job, which helped, but I was disappointed at the overall build quality for a set of wheels that have such potential, otherwise.
I am a 250 pound rider. Yup everyone loves it when this draft animal pulls! I have destroyed plenty of wheels in my day. I now have over 20,000 miles, yup 20,000 and have yet to knock them out of true or break a spoke. I do have them tensioned once a year which is about 5,000 miles but that's it. Had the bearings replaced at 15,000 just because. My only knock on them is the little plastic dust covers break easy and next to impossible to find replacements. I have to order them from England.
Just received these wheels and can't wait to put some miles on them. Wheels are just as they are described. Haven't mounted them yet but looks alone they are an A and I don't expect anything but pleasure from them. Also, had a slight shipping mishap called and talked with Ben and he cleared everything up quickly and professionally. I'll definitely continue to order from such a great company.
Nice solid option for those guys who don't want to run carbon wheels. While the race enthusiast might consider these training wheels, rec riders like myself will be very happy with these wheels as our daily riders. They are fairly light and a noticeable difference climbing hills. I went from a 1800gm wheel to these and these seem to spin up quicker and feel lighter. I'm currently running tubes but like the option of heading tubeless when I decide. I just wish Conti made some tubeless tires.
I bought these to replace my Jalco 460x wheels that came on my Specialized Allez Elite and these are sooo sooo much better. My dad, not knowing anything about bikes, told me that these felt so much lighter than my old ones and you definitely notice it climbing up hills. These are just some nice lightweight wheels, and honestly, probably the best cheap wheels that money can buy. I have these paired with my Continental Gatorskins and these roll really nice. Only complaint is that the free wheel sound isn't loud enough.
If you are looking for a solid wheelset for commuting or every day riding I cannot recommend these wheels enough. They are solid, perfectly true, and much lighter than your normal low-end wheelset.
Significant difference from my stock wheels. Glad I upgraded. Next is brakes
Just set up tubeless! Looks great, didn't ride just yet.
Much better than Ksyriums, imo. Quieter and last longer, also easier to rebuild the hubs. Price was great and fast delivery.
