Switched to Karoo after years of using Edge 830 and then 840. Tired of struggling with all the extraneous 'features' of the Garmin OS. Oddly it feels like riding a new bike!
- More readable fonts, crisper screen, white characters on black background works well, Edge seems stodgy by comparison
- Smart sizing: Karoo is roughly same width as the 840, but taller, so more space for data windows, without being as bulky as an Edge 1040 or a smart phone
- Across the top it displays ride time, battery SOC, and time of day in small fonts, so don't need to use data windows for those
- Implementation of Varia radar is way better: alert sound louder and more distinctive, yellow/red/green bar colors far more saturated than Edge's washy overlays that are hard to distinguish, the car pictograms are far better than the dots used on Edge
- OS more straightforward to use and set options
- Loaded a free extension for eat and drink reminders
Very pleased with it so far. Adapting to not getting speeds of approaching traffic (MyBikeRadar not available for Karoo yet) or Shimano Di2 gear combinations is not too difficult.
Very customizable and awesome navigation, great upgrade from a Wahoo. The navigation and rerouting is very clear and fast. Would buy again
Having owned the Karoo 2 since it was released, I became a big fan of the Hammerhead system. Favorite new features of this latest version, simply called the Karoo, is the amazing screen. Much easier to see in daylight. Secondly, the buttons are easier to press and quicker to use. The battery life is also much better thanks to the auto brightness function. Louder alert beeps make it easy to hear and the quicker processor makes the unit snappier overall. That said, there is still some lag when using the touchscreen, but not enough to be a problem.
This model is a big upgrade that I feel is worth it.
Great computer. I used a Karoo2 before this model. I ride with Shimano and I still love it. Bright screen. Easy to customize screens and profiles. Good battery life. Rerouting on the fly is good. The price is great compared to Garmin. Definitely recommended.
The display is beautiful. Colorful and easy to follow navigation. Battery was still 35% after 3 days of riding in Death Valley and didn't charge it once. Very intuitive setup and simple map place from ride with gps. I've had several different Garmins and this computer is superior on every level. Buy it.
Sdk not enabled so useless with Shimano equipped bikes. Very poor battery life. Slow. Nice screen but some questionable ui decisions like tiny fonts. I don't know what sram is thinking releasing it like this.
This was a huge upgrade from my Garmin 530. I think the UI is the best out there, especially for Strava live segments. No bugs or issues yet, very simple to get going. Get about 13 hours of battery life.
I've been using a 5 year old Wahoo Bolt up until I got the Karoo. It is more simple to use and does SO much more without needing a complicated manual to figure it out. I'm enjoying it a lot. I do wish that it had a mounting system that was more compatible with all the mounting systems I currently have.
