it provides some energy for long distance ride
Great taste
so delicious, I want to eat them even off the bike
It was a great price and I always like to have Gu for pack anytime I ride.
use for shorter rides, prefer the expresso
I have been cycling for 30 some years now, I have tried just about all the gels out there, but since I found the product GU I will not give it up.
The boost these provide is substantial. If I'm running a little low on energy they always pick me up. Taste is good. I usually get caffeinated variety's. If I'm riding by myself it is easy to eat solid foods, but if racing it is harder to do. These are very easy to open and eat when on the rivet.
taste good
I never used to eat during rides, now I do. These help maintain your output level and no more post ride hamstring cramps
I use GU Energy Gels about fifteen minutes before I start the ride. They taste good and help get me in the mindset to get a great ride in. During my ride I usually have a second and sometimes a third gel when I know there are climbs coming.
My only complaint is they are tough to get open and once opened its tough to get the gel out of the packaging. This said, GU should make the packaging with detents at the opening, so that the foil rips open easier. Once open, the opened neck should be made to handle more gel volume so that's its not so hard to get the product out.
Because of the effort required to open and consume, I normally use them when I'm coasting or stopped. I have other energy products that I use when I'm keeping up a pace.
I us GUs as a pre-race pickup and as an energy boost during the race. I like the portion size but the packet is sometimes a little awkward to completely clear of its contents. I'm not sure how that might be address, maybe a package that is slightly shorter and wider.
I've tried a lot of gels over the past 10 years and Gu consistently outdoes other brands for me. No weird brown rice syrup aftertaste, no sickly sweet sugar hit-just a mildly sweet gel with natural tasting flavors. Gu also sits better in my stomach (no indigestion), whether Im doing a long road race or just topping off for a short, intense cyclocross race. Lastly, Gu's caffeinated flavors (espresso love, mandarin orange) help me a lot during times on the the bike when grabbing a cup of coffee isn't an option.
Big fan of GU. Been using it for years and never had a issue. I primarily buy Chocolate,Espresso Love and No Caffeine Peanut Butter (for late afternoon and night rides)
This is good on long rides. Use every 45 minutes to sustain your level of energy.
I have tried them all and the GU Gels by far taste the best. They are also easily digested with no gastrointestinal issues.
GU is perfect for me. The chcoclate flavor is very good - my favorite - and the expresso is great since it has 2x the caffeine (which I like on race day). Very good prior to and during running, biking, or other workouts.
GU is great for quick energy, the espresso favor is a favorite that always goes down easily hot or cold!
My rides are normally 40 miles, 2 plus hours and about two thirds in I start to fade a bit so consume a GU along with a drink. Within a few minutes my energy level picks up and I finish my rides at ease without cramping. In the heat of summer I will consume two at 40 minute intervals. Have tried all flavors and prefer the peanut butter's true flavour and easily digestible. Last year I rode 6,200 miles on my Merlin with Shimano DI2 components and turned 80.
I use Gu before my early morning tempo runs as a quick source of fuel. I also use them on my long runs. I like the consisteny of Gu better than all other competitors and it seems to give me the best boost of energy.
Very tasty and easy on the gut, but too thick for waterless consumption and too light on salt for replenishment.
