I use these glasses on bike and driving. Prefer them over my prescription. I can now read my computer on the bars because of bifocal while riding.
I really like these glasses. They are comfortable and have reading correction. I no longer need to carry an extra pair of glasses
I first bought Dual SL2 sunglasses a few years ago when I was having trouble reading the smaller numbers on my bicycle computer and iphone. They are light weight and have good optical quality, but eventually the small wear-and-tear scratches have led me to buy a new pair. Same product. I rarely ride without them.
I LOVE these sunglasses. I purchased my first set of these sunglasses from this site over two years ago - I may even have previously provided a review. I am writing (again) only because a) I was looking here to get my third set and, b) it is MY OPINION ONLY that the reviews focusing on the lenses popping out while cleaning... smell of conflict of interest OR heavy handed handling of the sunglasses ( I don't think of myself as gentle) OR off road use with fat gloves (just a guess).
That being noted, have my lenses EVER loosened while cleaning the salt off the lenses from a hard ride? Yes, but you literally have to bend the frames to get that first pop of the lense - they haven't popped free easily for me even when I want to change from brown to clear (yes, I use dark for daytime and light for dusk or night rides).
I can accept objections to the frames being not stiff enough for some, but I personally love that the frames (arms) are flexible because I tend to have issues with frames on my work readers at the hinges and arms. Either my head is not average size (one way or the other - insert joke of your choice) or I handle my sunglasses poorly and the frames suffer. That issue does not exist for me with this product.
Is this product perfect? No - apparently it doesn't automatically adjust my lenses to reflect my need for greater magnification (thus the need for a third pair of greater magnification) but they do sell lenses of different magnification separately. If you want a great reader at a reasonable price - this is a great choice.
Final disclosure I am not an employee of Dual or any related parent or subsidiary company, nor do I have a pecuniary interest in the entity or any related affiliate, nor am I receiving payment of any fashion in any kind in exchange for this review (I wish I was, then my next pair should be free). Will these work at a very reasonable price for someone who wants a reader - highly probable. -)
This is my second pair because I foolishly lost my first. The bifocal lens has been very helpful for reading maps, my phone, my odometer, I use them for driving as well as biking. If your distance vision is reasonable but you need help reading, this is a much less expensive way to go than getting prescription sun glasses. They are not the most comfortable pair underneath my helmet, but very very worth it on sunny days.
These sunglasses are fantastic! They protect my eyes from wind and offer sharp, true colors, plus the tint is not too dark so I can see objects in the shadows. The nose and ear pads keep them from sliding down and the arms are shaped to hold my rear-view mirror perfectly. I can now see my computer in sharp focus and don't have to change glasses to read messages on my phone, menus or cue sheets.
I love these glasses!
I've been waiting for something like this to come along and indeed they work. I normally wear graded lenses and I really can't read without them. Now I can have decent long distance vision through the uncorrected portion of the lens and still look down and read my cyclometer, phone, or map through the bifocal insert. It's a great help. They are probably not the coolest looking or most comfortable pair of sunglasses on the market, but they are the first pair I can really ride and be happy with.
These are comfortable, light and work really well. They enable me to ride and see my commuter, read a map, etc, etc. without resorting to prescription lenses.
I can't read phone or cue sheets without readers anymore, and these glasses fit well, look good, and last a long time. I've purchased a total of three pair, and use them as general sunglasses, too.
Sunglasses are fine for picking up display data on road bike computer from lower portion of lens without interfering with down road vision. But when on someone's wheel the bifocal can come into line of sight and blur close range vision. Same on MT bike on slow technical sections when looking down... Bifocal can blur close range features.
I'll wear on road again but not on MT bike.
Great sunglasses, but the reader lens makes them brilliant! Perfect for reading your GPS/Garmin/logger screen while barreling down the road. I've taken to using them off the bike as well rather than carrying sunglasses and readers. My wife paid [$] for a similar pair, which makes these a good buy all round!
They are already falling apart.
As another reported the lens would pop out every time I would clean them. Now one
leg is broken. Now using Tifosi. They have a couple with readers. Construction seem much better.
Very helpful for reading my GPS. I found that a weaker correction (lower number) than I normally use worked better than I first expected. It's a good idea to visit the shop and try out what's available.
These glasses work very well as cycling glasses should. They look good, fit great, do not fog and are comfortable. The shade of grey is just about right. And, you can glance down and read your bike computer or route slip easily. The bifocal part of the lens is not a distraction at all - you will not even know it is there until you look down and realize that you can read! The company stands behind their product too. They replaced one of the arms free of charge when it broke (a bit fragile).
I love these sunglasses. They fit well on my fairly narrow face and are very light. These have the smoke lenses, and I have an older pair with brown - both are fine in the bright southern California sunlight I am almost always riding in. As suggested, I got the reading lens power 1 notch less than my reading glasses. That level is just perfect for reading the cyclometer, seeing what's going on when patching an inner tube, etc. Great product, great price. Highly recommended.
I like these glasses for biking and reading. My wife finds them too hot. This depends on the shape of the face, although a couple of ventilation holes at the top of the lenses might help this drawback.
I wear them all the time I ride if I know I will stop and need to read something. It only takes a little time to get used to them and after that they work great. They are a little short in the bows but minor issue.
i use these glasses all the time when working in the yard. i have several different helmets. these stems could be alittle shorter so they don't interfear with helmet adjustment systems.
I thought I would try these because of the magnification. Overall, I like the glasses, they stay put on my face and are lightweight. I found the magnification to be of minimal usefulness - it rather gets in the way as it fuzzes up the lower part of the visual field unless you actually stop and focus on the that part of the lens, these would be helpful if you needed to find the hole in a flat tube but otherwise, I personally don't get as much benefit from them as I thought I might.
