This has been my standard road bike tire for the past 5 years. Good durability.
Been using this tire for years. A great tire at a special Black Friday price. I always keep an extra set in my garage.
Not much more can be said about this tire than has already been said. There is a good reason you see it on so many bikes. The GP 4000 is a solid all arounder tire for enthusiasts. Plenty of grip and relatively high durability. Plus it looks good on the bike.
One thing to note is that my 28mm pair measures to about 32mm on rims with 19mm inner width so be careful on bikes with limited clearance.
Made a nice improvement (faster, more cushion) compared to the 23c size i was running. Really like the reflective stripe that helps visibility. No cuts on the few times ive hit landscape gravel.
I put them on my triathlon bike, replacing old tires. the y are grate on to test rides of 25 miles.
It may have been replaced by the 5000, but this tire has been proven through and through. With a discounted price, this tire is still well worth it. Cant pass it up and will not hesitate to buy again.
I use these tires every summer because they roll fast and wear well. During the winter months I use their 4 season tires that wear great for the tougher weather.
These tires provide great traction are fast and reliable.
The only tires Ive used over the last 5 years
Just received my new Trek Madone bicycle. After a flat on second ride, ordered 4000s and replaced factory tires. Continental 4000 S2s are lighter, smoother and better looking. The reflective strip is very sharp!
The Continental GP 4000 S II lasted me about 1,000 miles (1,600K) before taking a lot of cuts and starting to attract punctures. I'll be returning to the GP Four Season over the winter months for the increased puncture protection and better durability on the chip-and-seal wine country roads I usually train on. These are probably better suited for fair weather smooth asphalt road surfaces. Also be aware that these measure wide if you have frame clearance issues - my pair of 23mm measured 25mm with calipers.
Super light and easy to install
The only tires I will use on my bike. Gets an occasional puncture but prevents a lot more.
It was bad luck and a bad omen to have a flat just 46 miles into the first ride. (A staple! Two holes 12 apart.) Today, at 500 miles, my rear tire suffered 58 long cut across the middle. But looking closely, the carcasses have lots of scars and cuts. They're simply done. My conclusion the compound just isn't tough enough for Portland Oregon's debris-strewn roads.
Two bonus complaints
(1) Since 4000 SII's run large, size 28 don't work nicely on the first bike I put them on, my lovely Bridgestone RB-1. At 80psi they were fine, but with much more pressure they rubbed on the brake calipers. Other size 28 tires work fine on that bike.
(2) I'm very irritated with Continental for offering 4000 SII's with reflective sidewalls but NOT offering similar reflective sidewalls on Grand Prix 4-season or Gatorskin tires. Those are what folks use in the darker, winter months!
I'm switching to Grand Prix 4-season tires, but I'm unhappy they're not reflective.
I've ridden Conti 4000's for 20 years. The older product used to dry rot quite quickly. The new tire holds 10X better thanks to their newer compound. I've ridden just about every tire on the market and find Conti's to be the most comfortable ride compared to rolling resistance. I ride over 10,000 miles per year and know a good product when I use it.
Love using this tire for all around road use. One drawback is that sidewall gets cut easily from either road debris.
Continental tires are fantastic. They are long wearing, reliable and the company stands behind their products hundred % and more.
These tires are great for road biking. Fast yet stable, flat resistant. I seem better at climbing hills since I put them on my bike. Love them!
I used to race on these and I now use them for my everyday rides. They have great grip and last a long time.
Less flats
Awesome rolling resistance
Corner like you are on rails
Long lifespan
Comfortable ride
What more needs to be said?
Been using Grand Prix tires since the mid 80s, remember them? They never let me down, used them to ride across states, triathalons, wish theyd bring back the 700x18.
