Using this product for fitness and training on my road bike. Three to four 35 mile rides a week. So far no problems with tires, nice ride. Would like to try the 4000S tires from Conti also.
Ordered product and received in a couple of days as advertised. Continental Grand Prix 4-Seasons are a great road for all weather conditions. This is my second set of tires. First set got over 2500 miles on them before getting my
first flat and that was just a stroke of bad luck running over some broken glass. Highly recommend these tires. They cost a little more ....but are well worth it.
This tire will get you home. I recently hit something that shredded the tire across the width and it didn't flat. Amazing! The tire works well as a fast training tire which is comfortable and relatively fast and exceptionally durable. I seriously don't expect to ever flat while riding these.
I'll add my praise for these tires to the long list. I've been riding them daily for 4 months now and can't get enough of them. I use my bike for daily commuting, recreational riding, and some short touring. I searched for a long time before finding the perfect balance of light weight and durability in these tires. They're not bomb-proof (I've had 1 flat from a shard of class in some 2000 miles of mainly urban riding) but weight significantly less than the heavy puncture resistant tires. I'm not one to shave weight at any cost, but considering the extra force of starting and stopping tires, they're worth the cost for the sporty feel. They're grippy and everything I've heard about them is that they last FOREVER.
I almost decided not to write a review because it didn't seem like I had much to add to the existing reviews for this product. But then I remembered that I always read all the reviews and tend to rely on the consensus opinion. So here goes. I really like these tires for their durability and puncture resistance. I'm 65, live in Sacramento , Calif.(read star thistle and puncture vine), and ride 4-5 thousnd miles a year. I previously rode on Specialized Armidillos, but have found the Continental lighter and better handling while being eqivalent in puncture resistance. Plus, I'm pretty sure they make me younger and better looking....
I'v tried many road bike tire brands, but none perform like the Continental Grand Prixs. I have no problems with cuts, and rarely flat with these tires. I usually change tires around 3k miles, but a few years ago I put over 5k on a set, and the front tire had never flated.
I bought the 28mm version, which measured actual 27mm on my 22mm rims. The casing is exceptionally stiff and hard. The ride is OK at lower pressures (more than 15% sag), but gets very stiff as you reach pressures appropriate for your weight. Rolling resistance seems OK, but that is very subjective.
This being said, if they do provide the level of protection as claimed, then they seem like one of the better overall tires I have tried in the last 30 years. The quality of molding is exceptionally clean, with almost no flash at the mold parting line at all. I have since replaced them with a faster, larger, lighter, more supple tire (Grand Boise). I have had one flat in 500 miles since loosing the extra protection.
I am 240 and ride an exceptionally stiff aluminum road bike. I can't explain what possesed me to buy such and over-the-top flat resistant tire.
Previous 12 or so tires were Grand Prix 4000 and 4000s. Those rode fine but I lost three nearly new tires to side wall cuts (live 12 mile up hard packed dirt road). Considered the Gatorskin and the Gator Hardshell but selected the 4-Season as it, too, has the side wall protection, yet has soft treat rubber. Rode first pair from September into May, and actually wore the rear tire out. Great ride and cornering, indistinguishable from the 4000s, yet no side wall damage at all. I call these my Vivaldi tires and see no reason to ride with any other. Will be using these in Ride the Rockies, and for rough pavement and dirt sections, prefer 25mm inflated to only 95 psi (which is factory recommendation).
I been using this tire for about 800 miles and still no flats. I use it for my front rim and use a continental 4000 for the rear rim with one flat so far on the continental 4000. I recommend it to all ..
I ride about 20 miles round trip, from deep in Brooklyn to Manhattan 5 days a weekMaybe it's because i was riding on Armadillos before, but i love these tires so far. I have only ridden about 200 miles so far, so i can't comment on how long they'll last but here's what i do know
1. they grip in all conditions - dry crud, slick light rainy streets after a dry period, and torrential downpours. my armadillos felt unsafe and i worried about taking corners too fast, i don't worry at all with these
2. they're soft, comfortable, but i don't feel much resistance (i use 25's at 110psi in the back and 100psi up front)
3. in two weeks the armadillos punctured 3 times. because they're so hard, they seem to hold onto little bits of glass, it gets rolled in, and eventually gets through. no problems with these and NYC is not what i would call clean or smooth.
4. my average mph has increased from about 14 mph to 15mph per ride
5. climbing is easier (they feel light to me) and i don't lose speed from resistance going downhill.
i got them at a discount, but i will be buying these again, full price or not.
I have ridden these for just over a month now. I complete a century with them last weekend an they work great. I am very impressed. I am 250lbs and run a 25mm at 120psi, these tires are responsive and reliable!
This my second set of GP 4-Seasons, and I have no complaints. They aren't as quick as some racing tires, but with a low rolling resistance weight and above average durability and puncture resistance they are great for non-competitive riding. Continental considers it one of their top tires.
I have been commuting for 1,300 miles on the Continental Grand Prix 4-Season tires, and no flats. The Front tire looks like new, back is starting shows some signs of wear. I would guess they should hold up for 2-3,000 miles.
My commute is 8.5 miles each way, bike lanes and side of roads with some debits.
highly recommend
We have rode Continentals before and always like the way they performed. looking for a little more performance and these will do the trick I think
I ride solo and do about 1500 miles a season on city and country routes. You can expect few or no flats!
Good tire, but way over priced. I am not sure if it was my specific tire I had, but the extra wet weather traction that everyone raves over is mini-scale improvement at best. I'd say the 4season rides a little better than the gatorskins and looks better. But that's it, they do not provide the extra traction to justify the price hike.
300 miles and zero flats so far, and im hoping to stay that way until tires wear-out.
I ride in Clark County Washington. We are blessed with endless miles of rural and hilly roads but debris on the roadsides is often an issue so toughness is a plus. I have used Continental Grand Prix tires for a number of years now but was recently touted to the 4-Season with Bectran version, and (knock on wood) I haven't had a puncture since. It's only been about 500 miles so far but I am very pleased. And all my riding buddies, who ride other tires, have had at least one flat. Wear seems to be better as well but It's a little early to know for sure.
My wife uses these year round since she is not crazy about having to change flat tires. I use them on my cross bike for their sidewall protection. I have actually ran over a nail with these and the nail hit the vectran breaker barrier and deflected sideways, knew there was a nail since it was hitting on the frame, stopped pulled out the nail and we were on our way! Expensive tires but they do last well too.
I wanted a lighter, more puncture-resistant tire for my commuter bike riden year-round, and this tire is perfect in wet and dry conditions. Didn't really want a heavy touring tire. This 28 is much lighter than my old 34s, but just as cushy on long rides. So far (couple of months) - good recommendation, guys!
