Everyone knows gators are the go to tire. Theyll ride through glass and still be fine more often than not. They ride well and pretty fast. I road them when I only road fixed and they lasted over 500 miles in full skid mode. Even last a bit on the threads.
These Gatorskin Hardshells are awesome! Riding here on the Texas roads can be pretty brutal on tires, and since I have put these on my steed I have had no worries! Awesome tires!
I turned to Conti Gator Hardshells following a bad experience with Michelin Pro Comp 4 Service Course tires where flats become an all too common occurrence. With 300 miles on the new tires, I am quite impressed. I have run over patches of crushed glass on two occasions without puncture. These are very well built tires. In spite of the stout construction, the tires feel light and responsive. Be advised that tire mounting can be a pain due to tire stiffness. Nevertheless, I will take the trade-off for puncture resistance and durability.
This tire significantly cut down the number of flats.
Has good grip in both hot and rainy conditions.
In the event you do get a flat, It can be difficult to remove and replace.
Using the 700x32. This has become my tire for tandem touring with panniers. I have done two 30 day tours on the same tire and still enough rubber left for local training rides. We average 50 milesday. On my third set of these tires and have yet to get a flat. (Will probably wish I didn't write that soon.)
I weigh around 250 lbs. and feel that these tires hold up pretty damn well. I try to get out at least 3-4 times a week, 100-150 miles weekly. Daily rides sometimes with a group, but try to get out there to ride the streets pretty damn hard.
I ride between 80 and 120 miles a week. I rode these tires in the past but had tried a different brand. Came back after 6 flats in 8 weeks. Love the feel of the ride and the durability of the tires. No more trying other brands for me.
I bike to work every day and these tires provide extremely good puncture resistance. They are a little hard and heavy, so I wouldn't recommend then for racing.
I installed these tires on my son's bike that he uses to ride to school. The tires were selected because he and I were fixing flats about twice a week from goat heads. After I installed these, the flat fixing continued. At first I thought well, a lucky one got through, but I was wrong. The frequency continued at twice a week so I removed them and put and old stand by bullet proof tire, the Schwalbe Marathons on his bike. I made an assumption that the hardshell was tougher than a normal gatorskin. I was wrong, they definitely are not. At least from the goat head perspective. All that said, I run normal gatorskins on my road bikes and they do quite well. Very few flats and I get about 2,000 miles out of a rear tire. Longer on the fronts, but I normally just swap them both at the same time. I'm not sure I can say the same for the hardshell version.
I've ridden 3000 miles over rough roads with these tires with no flats. I could keep on riding on them, but I put them on toward the end of last season, and figure that I'd better change them to be safe going into next season.
These are becoming my favorite tandem tire in the 32mm size. Amazed with the mileage I get out of them. I used both the regular Gatorskin and Hardshell. Get equal wear our of either. Hardshell is a little heavier, but insignificant on a tandem. Would buy whichever is cheaper.
Gator Hardshell works the best for me with Floridas' abrasive roadways.
I love these tires and they easily eat up chip sill and other poor asphalt with ease. I easily get 4000 miles on these tires and weight 180 pounds and ride often.
Been using these tires for years. Easy to put on and take off. When they say provide excellent flat protection they mean it.
Ifu your looking for tires that will last and give you piece of mind these are it. They roll really good. I would recommend these tires to anone wanting durability and dependability.
Folding makes them easy to carry home. They go on and stay on. The dimples tell you when it's time for new rubber. Flats are rare to never. They feel great on the road. I've mostly ridden them on my track bike around the city and they last longer than any other tire I've tried. They corner well. Sometimes a bit challenging to take off.
Excellent tire. Well worth the money.
Love Conti tires. The added protection on the sidewalls keeps me flat free.
I use this on my road bike for recreational riding and a few organized rides per year. Have not had a flat in two years even though I have dug bits of glass out of one tire.
Mounted on 2017 Giant CoMax and so far the performance and durability of the Conti Hardshell have not been matched by any other tire.
These are some of the best tires on the market. They roll smooth and quiet. The only negative is that I had a lot of difficulty getting tire on rim.
