Description

Quite Possibly The Perfect Road Shoe?

Falling into Shimano's Road Performance category, the SH-RC7 is meant for speed with a claimed 245-gram weight that sits just two grams higher than the category topping SH-RC9 for a size 42. With a stiff carbon sole and comfortable upper, these shoes strike a balance between race-day aggression and training utility at a cost that pales in comparison to many similarly spec'd options.

Shimano fashions the SH-RC7s from perforated synthetic leather, chosen for both its lightweight comfort as well as its ability to vent cooling air throughout the shoe. Each shoe fastens with a micro-adjustable Boa IP1 reel across the top, with wide anchor points evenly distributing pressure. A hook-and-loop strap spans the forefoot for additional adjustability and customization of fit.

Underfoot, a stiff carbon fiber composite sole facilitates efficient power transfer with a high stiffness rating of 10/12 on Shimano's scale, which means you don't have to worry about wasted watts or fatiguing sole flex.

Features:

  • Integrated seamless midsole and upper construction enhance fit, stability and lightweight performance
  • Surround wrapping upper structure reduces overlap and provides a glove-like fit
  • Ultra-rigid hollow carbon midsole efficiently vents air and drains water
  • Supple high-density synthetic leather with perforation and lightweight mesh/TPU combination bring superior fit and comfort
  • Dual independent BOA® L6 dials allow quick, micro tension adjustments
  • Adjustable powerzone lace guide securely holds forefoot
  • SHIMANO DYNALAST promotes smoother pedaling and more efficient power transfer
  • Material: synthetic leather
  • BOA IP1 closure
  • Sole: carbon fiber composite
  • Compatible with 3-bolt road cleats
  • Intended use: road cycling
  • Available in black or white color option
  • Weight: 245g

Nice shoes but not perfect
by jayac

These are excellent higher end shoes with a few quirks. They're light and slim on the foot, they don't feel or look bulky like some other shoes. The dual Boa system is great. My gripe with them is that they're kind of awkward to put on. The tongue is attached to one side of the uppers, so they don't open quite as wide. Also, the material around the collar seems to be some kind of non-slip material, I assume so your foot doesn't slip around while riding, but it also makes putting the shoes on more difficult, instead of your feet just sliding in. And I mean these are more of an annoyance, rather than a true fault of the shoe design.

Once you're riding though none of that matters. The uppers are stiff and the Boa straps make adjusting them a breeze. The "grid" on the soles help you match the alignment of your cleats, Aside from the two Boa dials, they're sleek and just feel quick. As for their stiffness - on a scale of 1-10 where 10 is a super stiff race shoe, I'd say they're an 8. Good and stiff with just a hint of noticeable flex when out of the saddle. I do wish that they came with an additional arch support size like the RC902 did.

Very nice shoe.

My 15 year old Shimano shoes were starting to separate the soles. I bought these on sale and am pleased with them. I really like the wire tightening mechanism, which I can tighten before big hills. Side benefit is that while tightening, you can feel like the pros on the Tour as seen on the Netflix special. I just did a 52 mile ride with no hot spots. They are tight when first putting on, but feel right when pedalling. I would have bought wide as my feet are flattening out with age, but they were not available, so I bought regular with which aren't too tight. Strongly recommend, especially if you can score on sale. And the old shoes? I epoxied the soles back on and use them on my recumbent trainer.

Predictable fit and quality from Shimano
by Steve R

My oldest set of Shimano SPD-SL shoes are finally worn out, the upper is cracking and the lower heal is almost worn through now after 10 years of riding so when these came up on sale I jumped on them. I have 4 pair of Shimano shoes (2 road, 1 MTB, 1 Gravel), excluding the ones I'm retiring and they all fit the same, all comfortable and all with nice firm soles so I don't feel the pedals. This is my first pair with the double Boa, and I like that feature although it would be nice if they would loosen by turning reverse instead of having to pop the ratchet up and start over. These do seem to loosen up a bit at first when riding, very quickly but then they don't need adjusted again. Of the 4 usable pairs I have now, this is the one I like the best for adjustability. They are comfortable and don't move around when pedaling at all, just a nice solid fit for me.

Ride in Style: The Perfect Cycling Shoes!
by kingsingh1973

I recently purchased a pair of cycling shoes, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! The first thing that caught my eye was the stunning white colorit's sleek and stylish, making my cycling gear stand out.

Fit is everything in cycling shoes, and these deliver perfectly. They fit like a glove, and the sizing is true to my usual shoe size, which is a huge plus. Ive ridden in them multiple times now, and my feet have never felt sore afterward. Comfort is definitely key, and these shoes have it in spades.

Installation of the cleats was a breeze, thanks to the great markings on the sole. It made aligning everything super straightforward, so I was ready to ride in no time. I also love the dual BOA dials for tightening the fit. They allow for a customizable feel that keeps my feet secure without any pressure points.

As for pricing, I found an amazing deal at Bike Tire Direct, my go-to store for cycling gear. They consistently offer fantastic prices, and this purchase was no exception.

Overall, Im thrilled with these cycling shoes. Theyre comfortable, stylish, and perform exceptionally well on rides. If youre in the market for new cycling shoes, I highly recommend checking these out!

So Far So Good

I got the shoes on sale for my first shimano shoes coming from years of Sidi's. Just time for a change from the Sidi's. Much lighter shoe with a more relaxed fit. Not as confining as my past Sidi's. The Shimano fits great, feels great and pedals great. Easy in/out, good boa adjustment. The only downside is that there is no adjustment to back-off the boa tightness. You need to disengage the boa by pulling out the knob just like a full release. Otherwise, a good shoe for a good price.

Excellent fitting shoe
by Charlie

I love these shoes! They are better than the 3 pairs of Sidis that I've had in the past. The shoes have a fantastic fit, plenty of room in the toe box and a great supportive heel cup design. The 2 BOA adjusters work very smoothly & they rachet precisely like an Ultegra shifter. I've ridden 3 different road bikes with these shoes now and the ride feel is greatly improved with all 3 bikes!

Wish Shimano hadn't changed their sizing

Looking for a replacement for my SH-R170 road shoes - the best fitting, most comfortable cycling shoes I ever found. These seem to be as close as I can get. The assembly quality seems equal to the older shoe. The BOA closure is a substantial improvement lending true on bike flexibility. It's just that, somewhere along the line, Shimano decided to change the sizing of the shoe lasts. My old shoes were 43 and fit perfectly. Their new size chart said I should use a 44 for my US 9.5. They were ungainly long, so then I tried the 42.5 which is an available size in the RC 7. Still somewhat long with that unbalanced feel from too much toe space. Finally, I tried the 43. It is definitely trimmer than my old shoes which I am able to use with a supplemental insole (just a Dr. Scholl's). The RC 7 still has a nice smooth foot bed with little contour to suit my low arch feet well. The toe box is rounder which is the main quality allowing this size to fit. The trimness of the shoe will be more stable on the pedal. There's no room for a supplemental insole and I'm hoping the shoe will soften as I ride. I like the color and styling and the sole is stiff and very well made with good gradations for cleat alignment. It would be nice to do a follow up after a year of riding, but...

These shoes are really nice. They did not have that magical good out of the box fit of the R170s, but have a lot of promise.

First pair of Shimanos after being a Sidi user for over 10 years

I've been a Sidi user from the time I started cycling over 10 years ago. They are built well, look and feel great. That said, they feel a bit out dated in design and certainly seem to weight a lot more than it's contemporaries - so, it was time to switch it up. I was eyeing the Sphyre series shoe - but decided to go one step down, simply because I couldn't justify the price. The 702's have been perfect. They are comfortable, very adjustable and feel great on my feet, even on long rides - indoor and out. I highly recommend them if you want a modern shoe at a great value.

Dual Boa is a game-changer

2 of 3 customers found this review helpful.

My other Shimano (SPD) shoes have lasted me 8+ years of commuting, gravel riding, and casual city rides, so I figured I'd stick with a known quantity for new road shoes. Good choice! These are very solidly built, yet pretty lightweight, and the dual Boa dial adjustment is great for getting just the right fit. My feet are long and not super wide, so I can snug them down nicely without any bunching and get a comfortable, secure fit. Bonus points for a timeless aesthetic

got these to replace giro composite nylon/carbon shoes and am so glad i did. the dual boa dials are way better than any combination of straps and boa, and are very easy to adjust on the fly. half sizing ensured a perfect fit. easy on the eye and also easy on the wallet vis a vis perfomance. highly recommended.

I like these shoes. The sole is stiffer then the rc300 which they are replacing. There is plenty of room in the toe box and I like the double boa dials. I have no issues with this shoe and I think you get a lot of shoe for the money. I recommend them to anybody looking for a good shoe at a good price.

Mixed comfort for me...your experience may vary
by turbomatic

The upper boa strap really digs into the top of my foot--I have to be very careful about how much I tighten...too loose and I shift around in the shoe and it becomes unstable; too tight and it gets extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately the line between too tight and too lose is microscopic--like 1 click on the boa dial, so I'm constantly adjusting while on the bike to find the ideal setting. After over 1,000 miles on the shoes, it's still a source of constant fiddling.

I do like that the toe box is quite generous. The soles also seem to be the perfect level of stiffness. Just the tiny-est bit of give for some level of comfort, but certainly plenty stiff for out of the saddle sprints.

The shoes also look aces--very sharp.

Love these shoes! Red is wicked!

I absolutely dig the matte metallic red! These are so light and way more comfortable than my previous road shoes (from another manufacturer). My only niggle is that I wish the finish was more durable. My second ride outside and a serious mar on my toe happened from what i dont know, it was a 4hr ride.

comfortable straight from the box
by PNW Gravel

comfortable performance shoe straight from the box. Feels like it fits true to size for a snug performance shoe (I wear 10 in normal shoes and 44 fits perfect). Carbon midsole is stiff and totally reduces any pedal pressure points. For cooler temps covers are definitely needed as the bottom vents let in extra cold air.

I love these shoes!!! They fit well and secure my foot with the BOA system. I have also had Shimano shoes in the past and feel like the performance/value ratio is perfect for me. I am 195 pounds and never feel like the quality of the shoe is compromised. Good for riding in all weather. I am in Colorado so we have heat, rain, and snow. Never a problem with the RC702 shoes.
