Purchased the RocLoc 5 LED light at same time as a Giro Aries to replace a Giro Aether. Thought having the light on the helmet for added visibility would be a plus. Light installs easily and is surprisingly quite visible from the rear and sides when standing. Have long hair which fits well through the back of the helmet, and when on the bike and stretched out even a small bit, the hair all but covers up the light. Have tried securing the ponytail more tightly, but it still largely obstructs the light. The concept is great and probably works well for riders who are more upright and/or with shorter hair, but may not be effectively visible otherwise.
I really like the idea of a light that is custom-made to fit my helmet, and it does indeed fit well, with no noticeable added weight or bulk. It is bright -- I worry that it might be too bright and thus annoying to drivers, but no one has honked at, yelled at, or thrown anything at me yet. Wish it had more options than steady & flash, and the charge does not last as long as the blinky I had been using previously. The biggest problem, and it is a big one, is that the light snaps on very loosely, and it is very easy to knock it off if you are adjusting the helmet's roc loc wheel. I've had it fall off a number of times--though always from me bumping it with my hand, never just from bumpy riding. I may zip-tie or even glue it if it falls off again.
I'd give this light more stars than three if it weren't for the maddeningly inconsistent inability to know whether it will work or not with the Roc Loc 5 helmets it's supposed to. It works well for visibility and I usually will get at least two 35+ mile rides out of it before I have to charge.
The bad part is I've now bought four different Aether helmets with the Roc Loc 5+ setups and these lights worked with two and not with the others, where it would clamp securely on two and stay on and wouldn't clamp on the others at all. So far as I can see, there's no discernible difference between the areas it should be clamping onto the ones that it doesn't work with and all should be the newer Roc Loc strap system that accepts this light.
To Giro - come on people, get your act together! It shouldn't be this hard to make consistent Roc Loc 5 fit systems that work with this light as they're supposed to, especially with the technology to design and produce them throughout the manufacturing process. Consumers shouldn't have to engage in an effective crap shoot to know if it will.
The bad first, I wish it had a more secure fit. VERY loose and will fall off at any moment.....as it just fell off as I sat my helmet down. I have a 2022 Giro Aether Spherical helmet with the designate ROC LOC retention system. I would think an accessory made by their company for one of their own products would be a spot on success, but they missed the target on this?! The plus, it is very bright! Don't know how many lumens, but appears to be of good quality and build (just not the fit). I do many longer rides and will report back with flash run times when I have them. Until there is a design fix, I will try zip ties to keep this on my helmet. A $xx accessory attached to a $xxx helmet with 2 .03 zip ties....what ever works.
If you ride in traffic you can never have too many lights. This one works very well. Unlike other reviewers, the light I received snaps securely onto each of my two Giro Aether helmets (2020 mfg date) -- there's no chance it will fall off while riding. In fit, it's a bit difficult to remove so I will probably buy another light to avoid swapping between helmets. The light is bright and and advertised specs seem accurate: Mine runs for about 10 hours in flashing mode and takes about 2 hours to charge when fully drained. It would be nice if had some sort of indicator to display how much life remains between charges, but given the short charge time it's easy enough to just charge it every one or two days.
This is a really good, simple solution for anyone with a Giro helmet using Roc Loc 5 retention. I use this on my Vanquish and it works perfectly. Button is easy to find, it doesn't inhibit access to the retention adjustment and it doesn't add a lot of weight or jostle around like a velcro'ed on clip light would. I honestly don't even realize it's there after I turn it on. It's bright, it mounts securely, and the USB port is easily accessible without removing it from the helmet.
If I had to come up with a negative... and I'd be really grasping to do so... be nice if it had a 3rd light mode with maybe a little more irregular pattern. But again, that's really a stretch to come up with something negative.
It is expensive compared to the other options, but the light securely fits on my Giro Aries. It is good to not having to deal with o-rings and a mount for a helmet light which might affect the spherical MIPS. I do not remove the light for charging and am fine with the micro USB connector since my GPS uses the same. On group rides, no one has complained that it is distracting when riding behind me.
Light is very effective. Very visible in both modes and well positioned on helmet. Light would be effective on it's own. I use it in conjunction with a Nite Ryder rear light attached to rear bike rack. Drivers appreciate the effort and give me a wide berth at night. BUT there is a downside.
Clip on light's hold to Roc 5 system is pretty "iffy" It detaches very easily - especially when taking helmet on or off. I also lost mine once while riding. Solution: Use a small zip tie to secure the light to the Roc 5 suspension system.
You can never have enough lights on the road, if you ride on the streets or county roads occasionally like me. Especially nowadays, seems like we hear of accidents involved cyclist and cars just about every other day. I wasn't sure if this one last based on how it is mounted on the helmet, but after several rides, some very bumpy the light stay put! Ingenious!
It is bright enough for traffic to pay attention and solid enough so I don't have to worry about losing it. Good product.
By mounting a light on my helmet, it gets visibility much higher and avoids the issue of blocking my rear light with a bundle of extra clothing. I was concerned the bright light would bother others cycling behind me, but they said it was no problem and concurred with the enhanced safety.
I loved this light but found out that it won't stay secured to the helmet. I fell off 3 times and, the third time, I didn't realize it was gone until my ride was done. I definitely won't be replacing this light, not for $30. And I won't be buying any Giro helmets either.
Perfect fit on my Giro Eclipse helmet and my wife's Aesther helmet. Very clever design.
Bright enough easy to turn on change blink mode and off. Good battery life. These are so easy cuz no need to be moving lights around for 3 different bikes. Just take your helmet, genius!!

Really like the positioning of this light, up high where it is, hopefully, more visible. Fits on the helmet (2022 Eclipse Spherical) firmly and leaves the adjusting knob easily accessible. It's probably a good idea to double check that you have the correct helmet. There seem to be a lot of minor variations in the roc-loc system over the years.
Have two rear lites currently in use but nice to have a lite up a little higher in line of sight. Bright lite works just fine. Was concerned about users who feel that the lite wasn't a good fit but I use the latest Giro helmet and while it is snug on the helmet I've still put two ties around lite and helmet to ensure I won't lose the lite.
Love how this light integrates with the helmet. Being short, it puts a flashing light at eye level for most drivers. I also have a flashing light on my bike. I want to be seen.
I love having this light. It's big and visible. I recently did a charity century ride. When I finished the ride and got back to my car, it was still flashing when I took it off. That was nearly eight hours of battery life, and who knows how much longer it was good for.
I have the Giro Syntax helmet with Roc Loc 5, but this item will not securely attach.
What a disappointment. I'll be contacting customer service to return it which I really wish was not the case. It's very bright and I was looking forward to the extra level of visibility to others.
Just a bad design for securing it to the helmet. There were no specifications other than a Giro helmet with Roc Loc 5.
