Description

Aero From Every Angle

Introducing the Continental AERO 111 – the next generation in tire performance, developed in collaboration with DT Swiss and Swiss Side. Featuring an innovative and aerodynamically-optimized tread, this tire is engineered to effortlessly cut through the air like never before. The tread's 48 precision-formed, vortex-generating cavities create controlled turbulence, ensuring prolonged airflow attachment to the rim, resulting in reduced aerodynamic drag and improved crosswind stability.

The AERO 111 also incorporates all the winning technologies from the GP5000 TR Family: Black Chili Compound for superior grip and minimal rolling resistance, coupled with the trusted Vectran Breaker for added puncture protection. It's the ultimate aerodynamic tire – without compromise.

The Perfect Storm

The aero-optimized tread pattern certainly looks different: 48 little cavities are regularly distributed over its surface. These so-called 'vortex generators' are the very feature that manage to control the turbulence in the airflow on the surface of the front wheel. Ultimately, this results in a perfected storm that allows for the reduction of drag of the entire wheel tire system. For the perfect Aero WTS, pair with DT Swiss ARC wheels.

Swiss Side are the industry leader in aero-dynamics. With over 20 years of experience in both Formula 1 and cycling, they are renowned for utilising the latest technologies and methodologies in computational aerodynamics and real-world testing.

Features:

  • Aero, grippy and fast: It is the go-to tire for road cyclists who know that every watt counts
  • Vortex Generators allow for the reduction of aerodynamic drag of the entire wheel-tire-system
  • Improved handling in crosswinds through enhancing the sailing effect
  • Vectran Breaker for unparalleled puncture protection
  • BlackChili compound is renowned for its perfect balance of grip and low rolling resistance.
  • Tubeless Ready
  • 700 x 26/29 (26/29-622)
  • 255/285 grams

Feels fast; hard to mount.

Promoted as faster due to tread which creates wind vortices...per wind tunnel testing, and the faster you go (or the higher the windspeed), the greater the effect. Hard to say as I'm a 73 yo "never was," but it sure feels that way (possibly placebo effect). The 26 mm measures 26, narrower than I'm accustomed to, so higher pressure and a bit harsher on crappy chip-seal. Only complain was they were hard to mount tubeless on my Roval Rapide CLX II (21mm internal); couldn't seat beads even with compressor. Had to put in a tube for several days, and lost a lot of sealant around the edges before they finally sealed...to the point I didn't have enough to seal a tiny puncture on my 4th or 5th ride with it. My bad, but after first check, it was still hard to seat beads (and lost more sealant), so afraid to take core out again. Since then, all seems well.

Seems to hit that sweet spot between 28 mm being not enough and 30mm being too much.

Been riding it for about 500 miles now and it does seem better than a regular 5000, just a little better.

The Continental Aero 111 Road Tire has a lot of technology as its bio, but for me it feels like a truly fast, supple tire. Lots of grip and a cool look. I need more tire time to evaluate the tech.
