The Castelli Men's Perfetto RoS 2 Vest is made to be the perfect core layer, with wind and water protection on the front, and a breathable nanotechnology water-repellent back. It's light with a stretch fit, and is packable into half a pocket when not needed.
The Perfetto RoS 2 is Castelli's attempt at a vest that's warm and windproof yet breathable thanks to the Castelli-exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabric on the front and the membrane-free Nano Flex stretch woven back fabric.
This vest has three rear pockets of its own and easy access to your jersey pockets via a two-way YKK Vislon zipper you can open from the bottom. It has 360° reflectivity thanks to the reflective trim on the armholes and reflective band below the pockets.

I put in a lot of spring and fall miles and a vest is a must-have item, some days for the full ride and some days only until it warms up. This vest is very well constructed and uses top quality materials. The front is highly windproof while the back breathes very well. It's well fitted and long enough to layer well over a jersey. I was most surprised that even with the windproof front panel, it's still very packable and easy to roll up and store in a jersey pocket if the temperatures rise during the ride. It's not an inexpensive piece, but it's well-made and worth the extra money. I expect this vest will last a very long time.
Even though this vest has no insulation, its wind-protective front provides excellent deflection of chilling air. I have worn this over a single short-sleeved summer jersey while using cold-weather arm warmers in the low forties. This was in anticipation of the temperature warming to mid-fifties and higher. Yes, I started out on the chilly side, but after a few miles, I was warmed up enough to no longer be uncomfortable. When the temps reached into the sixties, I easily stowed it in one of my jersey pockets. One of the best features is it has dual-zipper capability for excellent ventilation when it warms up. It's expensive for a vest at full price, but more affordable when Castelli runs a sale. Castelli garments run small, so I ordered two sizes up, 2XL. I'm 6'0" and 185. It fits nicely with no flapping around unless I unzip it significantly.
I bought this vest before a trip to the French Alps. The weather was looking like it was going to be variable, some rain, maybe snow, cold, and some days warm. Having this Castelli vest really did save the day on numerous occasions. It was a fantastic and necessary addition to my packing list that kept me warm and dry.
This is my second one. To me it is an essential piece when the weather gets cold. I wear it over a a regular jersey in the 50s and 60s, and an insulated jersey in the 30s and 40s. It breathes well but is totally wind proof and does a great job of keeping the chill off of your core.
